Secret bars in Moscow

There are tons of bars in Moscow, where you can find everything from cozy beer bars, delicious gin-, cider-, champagnebars to exclusive cocktail bars. But in this post, I will focus on helping you find Moscow’s most secret cocktail bars.
There is something exciting about “secret” bars around the world. Yes, of course, they are not THAT secret, as the bars most likely still want to have some customers, but it all just gets a little more exciting and exclusive when you have to challenge yourself to find the place.

Let’s look at some of the most exclusive, delicious and secret bars in Moscow.

Mendeleev Bar

This bar is not easy to find if you do not know where to go. From the outside, the only thing you can see is the ‘Lucky Noodle’ cafe and there is no sign that there is also a bar here. You enter the cafe, turn right and here you will see some dark curtains. Go down the stairs and you will suddenly be located in probably one of the most amazing secret bars in Moscow.
The decor is truly unique. It’s retro, dark, and combines different styles. The service is great, their cocktails are really delicious and if there is something you do not find on the menu, simply ask the bartender.

Voda Bar

‘Voda’ actually means water in Russian, but do not worry, this bar serves a lot more than just water.
Voda bar opened in July 2017 and immediately became a beloved place by Moscow’s trendy residents. The cocktail list is so extensive that you never know what they have on the menu from week to week. They offer many seasonal beverages made with local and imported ingredients of high quality. The place is located in the city center, but I would recommend reading the description below before going out there. The bar is located in an old yard and can be quite hard to find.

You enter the yard next to Petrovka 17 and keep to your right until you see a small two-story building with a wooden door with a long golden handle and a stone sign next to it. This is the entrance to the bar.

Open a massive “Staff Only” door to get into the dim and mysterious Korobok bar. Its bohemian-scientific interior is based on a combination of dark leather and sturdy wood with vintage desk tables and medical lamps. There is no cocktail menu at Korobok. A bartender will offer you drinks, each equipped with a tailor made perfume: from bergamot to mint and litchi. Sit back in one of the delicious sofas and imagine that you’re on board the Orient Express.

You have to go down a series of seemingly endless alleys to find this bar/motorcycle workshop. Although there are lots of bicycle equipment that is scattered around, much attention is paid to beer and cider. Enthusiast is a cool combination of a vinyl, shabby interior and Soviet era items: from posters to decorative objects. Remember, they only accept cash!

This unique bar is tucked away on the second floor of the restaurant ‘Ugolek’. Here you can get a sophisticated cocktail experience, especially if you are into the Burning Man atmosphere. With a nomadic chic interior, Leveldva has quickly become a must-visit. The room, which is like a large apartment, is divided into three zones: a dance floor dominated by a sumptuous golden lamp; a cocktail area with an inviting wooden bar; and a corner for relaxing by a fireplace. Here you can order modernized versions of classic drinks.
